The author, German poet and writer Alexandra Etheldred von Herder Grantham was the mother of Sir Alexander Grantham who was governor of Hong Kong from 1947 to 1957.

This play was performed in Shanghai as an opera in 1933, composed by Aaron Avshalomov.
  Alexandra Etheldred von Herder Grantham (1868-1945), author and poet, was a scion of German nobility[9] and the widow of a British officer, Frederick W. Grantham (1871-1915), who lived in China, mostly in Tianjin, she later remarried the Norwegian General Johan Wilhelm Normann Munthe (1864-1935) and moved to the outskirts of Beijing.

Duodecimo (book size 16.8x10.8cm), pp. [2] 56. Sewn with red silk in traditional Chinese style binding, with pink and white paper covered boards, purple borders around gilt lettering on paper label to upper cover. Housed in matching foldover covers with matching label, bone ties (one missing).
