Oblique Strategies – Over One Hundred Worthwhile Dilemmas – SIGNED - Brian Eno, Peter Schmidt 1975First Edition, Number 48 of 500 limited sets ‘Abandon normal instruments; Breathe more deeply; Consider different fading systems; Discard an axiom; (Organic) Machinery; Mute and continue...’

Just a few of the wonderfully creative and abstract instructions from Brian Eno’s dadaist mind game for music production, the original Oblique Strategies card deck, with ‘over one hundred worthwhile dilemmas’, created by Eno and his friend, artist Peter Schmidt.

A complete set of the scarce ‘Edition 1’, number 48 only 500, signed by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt, and housed in the original black box. A further two editions each were printed before the death of Peter Schmidt (1978 and 1979).

Oblique Strategies is most frequently associated with bands Eno produced during his mid to late 70s creative high point, including Talking Heads and Berlin-trilogy era Bowie.
‘On each card is printed an (often quite abstract) instruction, which is invoked when an artist, producer or band has reached some form of creative impasse and requires external disruptive influence to suggest new ideas’ – The Guardian

There is a website that contains a number of interviews with both Peter Schmidt and Brian Eno in relation to ‘Oblique Strategies’ - web rtqe.net/ObliqueStrategies/OSintro.html
