The Man With Nine Lives - Signed - James Corbett 1938 - Herbert Jenkins Limited, London - First Edition, in First Issue Dust Jacket A near fine signed first edition, of one of Corbett’s detective novels, featuring Victor Redmayne. Rare signed and with the eye-catching dust jacket.

In the heart of London a man was shot at from his motorcar. The fact that the victim was not killed was of small importance to Victor Redmayne who witnessed the affair. Murder had been attempted; and as a result of his own investigations, he was involved in a highly thrilling adventure.’ (from the dust jacket)
James Corbett (1887-1958) was a prolific writer of mystery and thriller novels. His 43 known novels fall between the years 1929 and 1951; such an output translates to an average of two novels a year - a considerable feat for any writer. Most of James Corbett’s novels are standard murder mystery fare. His more notable books step outside the bounds of realism into the fantastic: outstanding examples would be ‘Devil Man from Mars’ (1935, a science fiction story), ‘The Man Who Saw the Devil’ (1934, a scientific horror story), and ‘When Death Walks’ (1941, a horror story) – Gavin L. O’Keefe, ‘James Corbett and his flying terrors’.
